Gun Control, Doctors, and The Daily Show.

A friend forwarded a Daily Show segment mocking a rule that Florida Governor Rick Scott signed in law.  The law is designed to protect the Second Amendment Right of the people to possess firearms by removing it from the list of information doctors can gather from patients. 

The jocularity included asking medical personnel if gun owners were acting paranoid and afraid of being on government lists.  I say, "Who wants to be on government list?" as government lists only help politicians and special interest groups.

While all this may seem like a minor thing on its surface, let's remember that there are many anti-gun organizations and many anti-gun political action committees (PAC's)  who support politicians who are also very anti-gun. These groups will gather information to gin up their own special brand of misinformation to prey on the concerns of all Americans in an effort to eventually remove firearms and the ability to defend themselves (ourselves) from all law abiding citizens. Well, except their own body guards (Sen. Diane Feinstein, D- CA).

The real paranoia lies with the anti-gun crowd.

Banning Firearms & Firearm Accessories: Democrats Get It Wrong Again.

Here we go...

"Sen. Frank Lautenberg (D-N.J.) will introduce legislation in the next Congress to ban the sale of high-capacity magazines, his office told The Huffington Post on Monday." -  The Huffington Post (THP)

The good Senator should know that criminals, and others who wish to do harm, are often deterred when the balance of power lies with the potential victim.  Firearms, along with concealed carry laws, help provide that balance.

Concealed carry laws give the law abiding the balance of power and an opportunity to defend themselves. When the criminals do not know who are victims and who have the power to defend against them they must assume anyone can defend themselves and look elsewhere for victims.  That is one reason why crime in right-to-carry states is lower than those areas where law abiding citizens are prevented, by law, from defending themselves. Much like our public schools, these areas are free fire zones for criminals and wackos to do as they please.

Consider that government agencies, such as the police, cannot be there to defend anyone when there is no time. The Newtown Police Station is 1.6 miles from Sandy Sandy Hook Elementary School*. And no police officer got to the school in time to save the children and their teachers.  People must be permitted to defend themselves. Do do otherwise is a grave disservice.

No legislation will stop a criminal who is intent on doing harm.  But smart gun laws reduce the open opportunity for criminals to do harm and gives the balance of power to the correct group: law abiding citizens.

THP goes on with "The legislation would simply reintroduce the prohibition of high-capacity magazines that existed under the federal Assault Weapons Ban from 1994 to 2004."

OK, easy enough to understand, but since it has already been tried with no success at any of its advertised goals, one would think that our elected officials would know better.  But if you consider this as simply a way to remove these tools from law abiding citizens the action makes more sense.

Senators Lautenberg , Feinstein, Schumer and the rest of the anti-gun crowd who want to ban firearms and firearm accessories, have gotten it wrong again.  They prefer to blame the tools instead of the person using them.

Insidious New Gun Control Commercial - Because the Truth Doesn't Work

I saw an amazing anti-American gun control advertisement on TV. It featured terrorist spokesperson Adam Gadahn, an American-born member of Al Qaeda, urging fellow terrorists to buy fully automatic weapons without background checks at gun shows in America.

Of course that is complete nonsense. The terrorist, targeting English speaking people, does not know what he's talking about, but that's OK with the 550 US city mayors* who produced the advertisement. (less than 6 percent US city mayors).

A disclaimer near the end of the video proves the lie of the spoken words.

"Terror suspects can buy semi-automatic assault rifles from private sellers with no background check"

Truth is the first casualty in the Progressive war on American freedoms and this ad proves it. The lie here is designed to gain support for changing the lefts imagined "gun show Loophole". The ad lays that out.

FYI: It has been unlawful to purchase an automatic weapon in the USA without a BAFT permit since 1934 and the NRA supported background checks have been required at gun shows since 1994

If you are going to contact your representative in congress, be sure to tell them that you support the Second Amendment to the US Constitution and that sworn (or affirmed) government officials who willfully and intentionally violate their oath of office should be removed from office.

This Week's Big Story 17 May 2009

It's kind of hard to say which is the big story. According to the legacy media, there are lots of big stories out there. Big stories that are secondary to the real story that they just as soon tell you about after the fact.

Look over here. The President is going to Notre Dame and receive an honorary degree. What a mess that's going to be.

Look over there. The President is going to nominate a US Supreme Court Justice. The big questions are woman, minority, both?

And over there. The President is releasing CIA documents. uh, that is not so important. The NY Times has released more classified material than the pikers in the Obama administration have released. But isn't Bush bashing fun?

Don't turn away from this one. The President is going to prosecute terrorist interrogators. No wait, interrogators' lawyers. Could be important. They are lawyers, after all.

Wait look here. The President is going to release more prisoner abuse photographs. Nope, changed his mind. The big story, he's flip-flopping. Nothing new here. He's flipped on everything he campaigned on already.

Wait, Wait, Wait. The Speaker of the US House may be misleading Americans. You'd better check it out.

In the mean time....

Obama Administration and the legacy media are directing attention away from nationalized health care insurance that is being rammed through congress, quadrupled deficit spending, nationalization of banks and automobile industries, and other unsupported programs such as Cap & Trade, removing profitability from business, strong arming banks & business, and paying off supporters, such as ACORN (up to $5.2 billion in taxpayer funds). That's not to mention killing charitable non-government organizations, gun control and auto emissions.

It's all a trick. They cannot implement their agenda if attention is focused on what they are doing and understand the consequences of these real changes. They have to keep the crisis mentality alive. They don't want to waste it.
